Historical Background
Delta Chemical Corporation began in the 1930's as a manufacturer of industrial and
consumer grade sodium hypochlorite. By 1962 the
repackaging of chlorine in one ton containers, one hundred and one hundred and fifty pound cylinders
was added to sodium hypochlorite production in Baltimore, Maryland.
The year 1976 marked our move to the Curtis Bay area of Baltimore. The site consists of 19 acres of land with
over 200,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse buildings situated on the Patapsco River and zoned
for heavy industry. A new facility was constructed for manufacturing sodium hypochlorite and repackaging chlorine.
The production of liquid aluminum sulfate from aluminum trihydrate began in 1979 with sodium aluminate production
added in 1980 and ground aluminum sulfate in 1983.
While the Baltimore facility was beginning the production of water-soluble polymers in 1987, liquid aluminum
sulfate production began in Ashtabula, Ohio that same year.
By 1995 production of polyaluminum chloride was added to the Ashtabula facility to complement the liquid
aluminum sulfate production and aluminum sulfate/water soluble polymer blends being marketed to Ohio,
Pennsylvania, New York and West Virginia.
Between the years 1996 and 2000 the Baltimore plant has integrated and expanded to include, construction
of the first phase of a 15,000-ton warehouse facility for aluminum trihydrate, a new large-scale sodium
aluminate process, a new polyaluminum chloride process, a new aluminum chloride process and a new aluminum sulfate process.
By 2002, the polyaluminum chloride process capacity was increased to meet the growing demand for the DelPAC products.
Today, Delta Chemical Corporation is a diverse producer and distributor of water and wastewater
treatment chemicals. We are a safety, environmental and quality-oriented corporation with long-term growth objective.
